Walking and Mountain Biking

The season runs from late June to early September, with a network of chairlifts operating from Chatel and Morgins up to the higher peaks and on into other valleys across the Portes Du Soleil. These are available for walkers and mountain bikers. Detailed maps are available from tourist information offices. Link

In addition to the chairlifts, in summer the roads up to mid-station of each skiing area are generally open and free parking is available there. This will enable you to start walking from an altitude of approx 1300m to 1600m, giving relatively easy access to the higher ridges. Tourist information, ticket offices and Vertical Horizons can advise on routes. The routes are very-well signposted, with walking times from point to point. They follow the paths clearing depicted on pocket maps, available from all local Tourist Information offices for a nominal charge. For the very adventurous and experienced walker these also include routes to the top of the highest peaks in the area, rising above 2400m. There's also a walking map in our brochure.

You can also start from the chalet. You can walk to either Abondance or La Chapelle along the river and we have left a map of a 5 mile approx circular route which takes in the river walk and the hill immediately behind the chalet (so it includes a tough climb but lovely views of Abondance and Chatel).

The walking from the far end of the Abondance valley near Lac Plagne is excellent for either a gentle stroll around the lake and lunch at one of the restaurants, or a longer walk up into the mountains. Walking from La Chapelle also highly recommended.

There is a book of walks in the information drawer.
